This Is Also What Foreclosure Looks Like

A few months ago, BBC staff was contacted by Anne Trubek, a writer working on a book about the houses in which renowned authors lived. Anne was investigating the former home of Charles Chesnutt, America's first professional African American writer, which had been located on East 73rd Street between Cedar and Central Avenues.

BBC communicated the story of the active block club operating on the street and its recent success in appealing to the City of Cleveland to raze five massive abandoned structures (see the Fall 2008 issue of The Community Connector and the feature about Cleveland Central Weed & Seed in the Sandusky Register). Staff also referred Anne to community members who are committed to making a difference.

What resulted is a wonderful article Anne wrote about how foreclosures can be positive for communities, providing the opportunity for exciting new opportunities to redevelop properties. To read Anne Trubek's piece called This Is Also What Foreclosure Looks Like, please click here.
